In Fall 2021, Tuff Stuff redesigned the mounting rails and hardware kit for the ALPHA model tent. Tents purchased prior to Fall 2021 use a custom M10 T-bolt (shown here) with a 17mm hex head lock nut. The industry standard for Roof Top Tents is M8 hardware. Vanultra quick release mounting brackets are not compatible with the M10 T-bolt. A fit kit is required to replace the T-bolt with standard M8 hardware.

ALPHA tents purchased after Fall 2021, do not require fit kits because they include the standard M8 hardware with nut slider plates.

THE PROBLEM - Roof top tent hardware is time consuming and difficult to remove

Does it lock?

Yes it can! You can purchase a roof top tent lock or use a standard 1/2″ receiver hitch pin lock for 1-1/4″ Class I & II receiver.

What is included in the kit?

This kit includes 4 roof top tent mounting assemblies with an instruction manual and a helpful install video. Assembly will be required. Note, the locks are NOT included and are sold separately if desired.

Will it fit my roof top tent?

Check the tent compatibility table and find the model of your roof top tent to learn if any special hardware (fit kit) is required to adapt to your tent.

What is a fit kit?

Fit kits are required to install Vanultra quick release mounts on specific branded tents because some tent models are built with unique frame rail extrusions. Check out the available fit kits product page. Our goal is to offer a mounting solution for all of the popular configurations. If you own a popular RTT, we will try to develop a fitment solution for you.

Will it work with roof rack platforms?

Yes, our mounts are compatible with roof rack platforms by Front Runner, Rhino Rack and others. We include a washer that allows the mount to rotate and clear the spacing.

How can I space my tent up?

Vanultra mounts do NOT add height and will not space your tent up. On that note, these mounts are not designed to clamp to spacers or riser brackets. If you need extra height you could either raise the cross bars or consider alternative mounting solutions.

My rack is not listed? Will it work?

With hundreds of roof and bed racks constantly coming on the market we can’t list them all. Please feel free to reach out if in doubt. Our mounts will fit roof rack height’s between 0.75″ – 2.13″ and width’s between 0.75″ – 3.75″.

My roof rack is low profile to the vehicle roof, how much clearance is needed?

As a rule of thumb, you will need to be able to fit your hand underneath the cross bar to remove the pins and tighten the knob.

What if it still doesn't fit?

We offer free problem solving advice and quick and easy exchanges. We will do our best to ensure that the product fits correctly the first time, if not, we are happy to exchange it for you. Still concerned? We offer a 30 day return policy.

Is there an option for 6 mounts?

Yes, we offer a kit for 6 mount assemblies for $524. This may be necessary for set ups using a 3rd cross bar to help distribute the weight of the roof top tent.

This is the perfect solution for those looking to install and remove their RTT easily. It would be a clean 5 stars for me, but the hardware included isn't great quality and I had to make multiple hardware store trips to replace snapped or faulty bolts.

Thank you for posting a review. We are sorry to hear that had you an issue with the included hardware. We are willing to cover the cost of your replacement hardware and will contact you directly for a reimbursement for these parts.
All of the included hardware is DIN spec A2 which is 304 stainless steel, so most likely the bolt and nut seized together due to stainless steel galling. To prevent this from happening in the future we recommend to use anti-seize. We have recently updated our user instructions to clearly specify where to apply anti-seize to avoid this issue.

Great Product and Service

I ordered the Roof Top Tent Quick Release Mounts to use with my 23Zero tent. I’m very happy with the product. The directions are clear and easy to follow. What I like best about the mount aside from being quick is the mount has a defined point when attaching. So I don’t have to take measurements every time I reinstall my tent . I would also recommend Vanultra based on the customer service . Trevor was very helpful when I needed a replacement part. (My own fault).

FSR - Best Decision Ever

After installing a hoist in my garage, taking on and off my RTT by myself took around 30 minutes.

Fumbling around with U-Clamp, bolts, washers and wrenches meant I had to plan ahead to allow myself enough time prior to going on an adventure. (And prepare myself to get frustrated)

Enter the Van Ultra quick release mounts.

30 minutes? Now it’s 5 minutes, by myself.

The barrier to adventure just got significantly smaller.

Worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone looking to avoid “losing their cool” while installing or removing their RTT!
